The educational philosophy at St. John’s rests upon the belief that every pupil is valued and has a basic right to be provided with every opportunity to succeed.  As such, the school generates an environment which promotes as much independence as possible and aims to establish self-respect, respect for others and respect for the environment.

The school ethos ensures that teaching and learning at St John’s School enhances the spiritual, moral, social and cultural education development of all pupils. The ethos of the school encourages positive and supportive relationships, attitudes and models of behaviour enabling all pupils to learn and develop to their full potential.

Policies on behaviour support and equal opportunities support the expectation that everyone will be treated with respect and will be expected to show respect to others.

Citizenship, personal, social and health education (CPSHE) helps to develop pupils’ independence skills and their ability to make choices and decisions.  They are also supported to develop relationships and to understand the importance of family and friends.
